May 22, 2010 ‘Empire Strikes Back’ is released thirty years ago today
It’s all over the Star Wars-related websites today, but that doesn’t make it any less notable. The Empire Strikes Back is thirty and after both trilogies are concluded, many of us believe that Empire is the best of the films.
Of course, we could write volumes on why we think The Empire Strikes Back is the best, but suffice to say, there’s not a moment of the movie we don’t love to death. The film is an amazing collaboration between all who were involved in the production and the result is of staggering cultural importance.
While we have tried isolate the perfect moment from the film, we believe it’s the moment that Yoda levitates Luke’s X-wing out of the swamp. It is a sage moment without triumph that represents Luke’s impatience and allows Luke to experience tragedy. We’ve seen that moment probably hundreds of times and it still gives us goosebumps. There are many moments in The Empire Strikes Back that still gives us goosebumps, but that one scene in particular makes you feel every bit as Luke must in that moment.
